Daffodil International University has emphasized transforming research into patents and commercially viable innovations at its Research Award Giving Ceremony 2026, where nearly 700 teachers, researchers, students, officials and alumni were honoured.

Daffodil International University (DIU) has underscored the importance of transforming academic research into patents, technologies, products and commercially viable innovations while recognising outstanding contributions made by teachers, researchers, students, officials and alumni.

The university organised its Research Award Giving Ceremony (RAGC) 2026 on Wednesday (July 8) at the International Conference Centre of Knowledge Tower in Daffodil Smart City.

The event was attended by UGC Member Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayub Islam as the chief guest, while Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir presided over the programme.

Among others present were Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Registrar Dr. Mohammad Nadir Bin Ali, Treasurer Dr. Hamidul Haque Khan, Controller of Examinations Md. Mominul Haque Majumder, Librarian Dr. Md. Milan Khan, along with deans, department heads, faculty members, researchers, officials, students and alumni.

In his welcome address, Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir highlighted the university's initiatives to strengthen its research ecosystem, expand internationally recognised publications and promote an innovation-driven research culture.

In a recorded video message, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said research should not remain confined to publication in international journals. Instead, it should be translated into patents, technologies, products and services that contribute to economic growth and improve people's quality of life. He stressed the commercialisation of research outcomes and greater emphasis on innovation-led research.

Chief guest Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayub Islam called for stronger collaboration between academia and industry. He said research should address real societal challenges and generate knowledge that contributes meaningfully to national development.

Director of the Division of Research Dr. Mahfuza Parveen presented the university's research achievements, stating that DIU's publication output has shown consistent growth. Research publications increased from 1,010 in 2022 to 1,487 in 2025, with a significant number appearing in Scopus-indexed Q1 and Q2 journals.

She also said the university is currently implementing 138 externally funded research projects, while researchers secured nearly BDT 50 million in competitive national and international research grants over the past year, strengthening global collaboration and innovation.

One of the highlights of the programme was the presentation of research awards. This year, nearly 700 teachers, researchers, administrative officials, students and alumni were honoured for their research contributions. Winners of special research recognition and poster presentation competitions also received awards.

In his closing remarks, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal congratulated the award recipients and said the collective contribution of faculty members, researchers, officials, students and alumni continues to drive the university's research and innovation forward.
