Most polling centers will be brought under CCTV surveillance by the end of January, assured Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. In addition, officers at high-risk centers will be equipped with body cameras, all monitored from control rooms, he said.

On 19 January, Monday, the Chief Adviser gave this assurance during a meeting with a four-member delegation from the National Citizens Party (NCP). The delegation, led by NCP convener Nahid Islam, included Central Election Committee Chairman Asif Mahmud, Secretary Monira Sharmin, and Head of the Legal Assistance Subcommittee Zahirul Islam Musa.

The meeting was also attended by Culture Adviser Mostafa Sarwar Faruqi and Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT.

During the discussion, NCP leaders shared their observations and concerns regarding the referendum. They said NCP members across all levels were campaigning in favor of a “Yes” vote. The leaders also highlighted several issues and urged the government to ensure a level playing field for the election.

The Chief Adviser stated, “Any complaints or suggestions regarding the election will be immediately communicated to the government. The government will take action wherever possible, ensuring no one violates the law.”

He further emphasized that field administration has been rotated through a lottery system to ensure impartiality. “There is no room for bias in this election. This is a referendum that will determine the nation’s future—it must be conducted fairly,” he said.

Regarding campaigning, the Chief Adviser noted that the government is legally promoting a “Yes” vote and is working to inform citizens why a ‘Yes’ vote matters and what its impact will be. All political parties have been urged to cooperate.

He concluded by stressing that the responsibility for a free, fair, and festive referendum rests with the government, the election commission, and political parties alike, calling for collective cooperation to ensure a smooth electoral process.
