National Startup Showcase Highlights Student Innovation

The Ministry of Education has launched the national phase of the Startup, Science Project and Innovation Idea Showcasing programme, bringing together selected student and teacher teams from across Bangladesh to present innovation-focused projects and technology-driven ideas.

A fair for young innovators is underway at the Bangladesh-China Friendship International Conference Center in the capital. Some have brought drones or robots, others solar-powered agricultural equipment, and some have developed AI alert apps. A few have even presented smart green city demos.

This national-level exhibition, part of the 'Startup, Science Project, and Innovation Idea Showcasing' program, organized by the Ministry of Education, began on Sunday, June 28, in the morning. Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon visited the event at noon, which features students from schools across the country.

One hundred top teams, selected from district and metropolitan levels, are participating in this innovative fair. They are showcasing their innovative projects, scientific models, and technology-based ideas.

The programme aims to strengthen personal skills, encourage joyful learning and promote creativity, analytical thinking and problem-solving beyond memorisation-based education.

The initiative is being implemented nationwide through upazila, district, metropolitan and national stages with participation from secondary-level teachers and students. Students from grades six to twelve are taking part, with each team consisting of three students and two teachers.

Organisers said showcase events were held across 521 upazilas and metropolitan education zones on 12 June. A total of 8,029 teams participated, involving 27,204 students and 16,058 teachers.

Following the first phase, 546 selected teams advanced to district-level presentations on 14 June, where startup concepts, science projects and innovation ideas were demonstrated.

At the Dhaka district event held at the BAF Shaheen College auditorium, Dr Zubaida Rahman, spouse of the Prime Minister and Vice President of Ziaur Rahman Foundation, attended and encouraged participating students.

According to organisers, one of the objectives is to support locally developed solutions to local challenges and inspire entrepreneurship at the community level.

Ten outstanding teams will receive trophies. In addition, selected participants will receive the “Meritorious Teacher in Quality Education Award” and the “Innovative Student Award”.

Award-winning teachers will receive Tk 30,000 and certificates, while selected students will receive Tk 20,000 and certificates.

Organisers expect the programme to contribute to developing innovation capability, research-oriented learning and future technology readiness among students.
