17 Highly Educated Candidates Appointed to Office Assistant Posts in Pabna
17 out of 18 newly recruited office assistants at the Pabna Deputy Commissioner’s Office are highly educated, including engineers, MBA graduates and postgraduates. The appointments have sparked discussion over both transparent recruitment practices and the growing challenge of educated unemployment.
A total of 18 candidates have been recruited as office assistants in the Revenue Section of the Pabna Deputy Commissioner’s Office, with 17 of them holding higher educational qualifications.
Although the minimum qualification for the position was SSC or equivalent, many of the successful candidates possess university degrees, including engineering, business administration and postgraduate qualifications.
Among those selected are graduates in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Textile Engineering, MBA and various master’s degree holders from different public and private institutions.
According to district administration officials, around 8,000 applications were submitted for the 18 positions, while approximately 4,000 applicants took part in the recruitment examination.
Following the written examination, 44 candidates were shortlisted and the final selection of 18 candidates was completed through viva voce interviews.
A joining ceremony was held on June 25 at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where newly appointed employees formally submitted their joining letters and were welcomed with flowers.
Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam said the recruitment process was conducted through open competition and merit-based evaluation.
While many observers have praised the process as an example of transparent public recruitment, the appointment of highly educated applicants to entry-level support positions has also renewed debate over employment opportunities and the alignment between higher education and the labour market in Bangladesh.
