BASIS Election: Administrator Writes to Commerce Ministry to Correct Voter
May 17, 2026 23:02

Just a day after a report was published on DigiBanglaTech.News, the Administrator of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has formally written to the Ministry of Commerce, requesting an immediate correction of the voter list for the upcoming 2026–2028 Executive Council elections.

Local Government Division Joint Secretary and current BASIS Administrator Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan sent the official letter on Sunday, May 17, to Tania Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Chairperson of the Election Board. The letter officially appeals to the board to rectify numerous errors and inconsistencies in the finalized voter list, bringing renewed scrutiny to allegations of irregularities, corruption, and a syndicate within the ministry aimed at excluding general members from the election process.

Highlighting severe anomalies in the published final voter list, the letter noted that the BASIS secretariat has been flooded with specific complaints and sharp reactions from general members following its publication. Prominent among the grievances are photo mismatches, incorrect Tax Identification Numbers (TIN), and the outright exclusion of several valid members from the list despite their timely submission of necessary documentation and clearance of outstanding dues. Additionally, the letter pointed out widespread discrepancies regarding individual membership identification numbers.

The correspondence further explained that these errors were cross-checked and verified by the BASIS secretariat based on complaints submitted by affected members. Specifically, the letter flagged that the membership identification numbers for members ranging from AS-23 to AS-54, AS-56 to AS-76, and AS-78 to AS-107 were displayed incorrectly. To ensure the transparency, accountability, and accuracy of the entire election process, the BASIS administration has strongly urged the election board to take swift corrective measures regarding this flawed voter list.
