Dilara Hafiz, Sangsad Speaker's Wife and Former Educationist Passes Away in Singapore
Dilara Hafiz, wife of Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, passed away on Saturday, 28 March, while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji'un). The late Dilara Hafiz was a former Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) and former Principal of Eden Mohila College.
President, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Deputy Speaker, and Leader of the Opposition as well as Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman have expressed deep shock and sorrow at her death. Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Minister of Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam, along with Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Abdun Naser Khan, also conveyed their condolences.
In separate condolence messages, they stated that Dilara Hafiz made significant contributions to the country’s education sector as a dedicated educationist. Her active and accomplished life will remain exemplary for the nation.
They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives.
At the time of her death, Dilara Hafiz was 77 years old (78 years according to other sources). Family sources said that her body is expected to arrive in the country on the evening of 29 March.
