A deadly clash between two groups, reportedly triggered by a Facebook status, has left one person dead in Alamdanga, Chuadanga. The deceased has been identified as Shimul Hossain Kazi (20). The family claims that upon hearing the news of his grandson’s death, his grandfather Nazim Uddin Kazi (70) died of a heart attack.

The incident took place on Saturday (March 21) noon in Chhatrapara village of Dauki Union under the upazila.

According to local sources, a few days earlier, a youngman named Hridoy Hossain posted a political status on Facebook while staying in Dhaka, which led to tensions. After returning home on Eid day, the situation escalated, eventually turning into a clash in the afternoon. Several people from both sides, including women, were injured, and houses and shops were vandalized.

In retaliatory attacks, Abdullah’s mother Alia Begum, Tarikul Islam, and Shariful Islam, among others, were injured.

Later, as the clash intensified between the Hannan-Kubir group and the Lal Khan-Jahangir group over prior enmity, Shimul Kazi was critically injured. He was taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, where he died in the evening while undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the family claims that his grandfather Nazim Uddin Kazi died of a heart attack upon hearing of his grandson’s death.

Tension continues to prevail in the area following the incident. Additional police have been deployed to maintain law and order.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Alamdanga Police Station, Bani Israel, said that police rushed to the scene upon receiving information and brought the situation under control. The situation is currently under police control, and efforts are underway to identify and detain those involved.
