Tech Trouble: Students Demand DG's Removal and New Leadership

In a move highlighting their dissatisfaction with the current leadership, protesting students have declared the Director General (DG) of the Directorate of Technical Education, Shoaib Ahmad Khan, as “undesirable” due to unmet demands. The students also called for the appointment of a DG with a technical education background. This declaration and demand were presented by Jubayer Patowari, a representative of the Technical Student Movement, during their protest at the Sat Rasta intersection in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Wednesday afternoon, April 16.
Following this announcement, officials from the concerned department, including DG Shoaib Ahmad Khan and other representatives from the Ministry of Education's Technical and Madrasa Education Division, along with technical board officials, were scheduled to visit the protest site. They planned to discuss the students' issues and provide concrete assurances regarding their demands.
Dr. Kh M Kabirul Islam, the Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division, confirmed this information in a media statement around 3:45 PM on the same day.
Earlier that day, at 10 AM, Polytechnic students had gathered at Sat Rasta and launched their protest with a sit-in. Students from various districts, including Rajshahi, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Bogura, Naogaon, Comilla, Kushtia, and Khulna, also joined the nationwide protests, blocking roads in support of the movement.
