Digital Farmer ID Drive Debuts: 'Krishak Card' Rollout Begins in Tangail

As part of implementing an election pledge, the Krishak Card distribution programme will be inaugurated on April 14, the first day of Boishakh, Tuesday. The formal launch will take place at 10:30 am at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail, where Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the programme.

This will be Tarique Rahman’s first visit to Tangail as Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Fakir Mahbub Anam, Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology, inspected the final preparations for the inauguration ceremony of the card, which aims to ensure farmers’ digital identification and facilitate access to government services.

On April 13, Monday, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan also accompanied him during the inspection.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Fakir Mahbub Anam said the Prime Minister’s initiative for farmers’ welfare is a groundbreaking step that will further energize the country’s agricultural sector and accelerate development activities.

Following this, the overall preparations for the programme were reviewed in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarker, other senior administrative officials, and local leaders. The minister provided necessary directives to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the event.

Additionally, Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, Member of Parliament for Tangail Sadar constituency and State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, and Member of Parliament for Tangail-2 (Gopalpur and Bhuapur) constituency Abdus Salam also inspected the preparations. The Agriculture Minister stated that the card distribution programme will be completed within the next four years.

According to sources, after inaugurating the Krishak Card programme, the Prime Minister will also open an agricultural fair at the municipal park in Tangail district on the same day. Prior to that, upon arriving in Tangail, he is scheduled to visit the mazar of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, popularly known as Majlum Jananeta.

The Tangail District Department of Agricultural Extension said that, in the pre-piloting phase, a total of 1,470 farmers from three wards of Gharinda Union in Tangail Sadar Upazila are receiving the card. Among them, 100 farmers will be present at the Prime Minister’s rally venue, and 15 farmers will receive the Krishak Card directly from the Prime Minister during the ceremony.
