A violent clash between two groups over a Facebook status in Chuadanga’s Alamdanga upazila has claimed two lives. Shimul Hossain Kazi (20) was killed in the fighting, while his grandfather Nazim Uddin Kazi (70) reportedly died of a heart attack after hearing the news of his grandson’s death.

The incident occurred on Saturday (March 21) afternoon in Chatrapara village under Dawki Union. Local sources said that a few days earlier, Hridoy Hossain, a youth from the village, posted a political status on Facebook while staying in Dhaka. The post sparked disputes among locals. When he returned home for Eid, tensions escalated, leading to a confrontation.

On Eid day, an argument broke out between Hridoy and Abdullah, son of Sahabul Islam, which quickly turned violent. Both sides engaged in attacks and counterattacks, leaving several people injured, including women. Houses and shops were also vandalized.

Later, the conflict intensified between the Hannan-Kubir group and the Lal Khan-Jahangir group. During the clashes, Shimul Kazi was critically injured and taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, where he died in the evening while undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, upon hearing of his grandson’s death, Nazim Uddin Kazi collapsed and died of a heart attack, according to family members.

Following the incident, the area remains tense. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain order.

Alamdanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bani Israel said police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. He added that the situation is now stable and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.
