Two Jailed for Using Electronic Devices to Cheat in Judicial Recruitment Exam
Two individuals have been sentenced to prison by a mobile court for allegedly using special electronic devices to commit fraud in a subordinate court employee recruitment examination under the Judicial Service Commission. The arrested individuals are Mamunur Rashid (28) and Shuvo (26).
They were detained on Saturday, March 7, at the Government Titumir College examination center in Mohakhali, where the exam was being held.
According to reports, Mamunur Rashid, who is a staff member at the Naogaon Court, entered the examination hall by posing as a fake Judicial Magistrate and was assisting examinee Shuvo in writing answers.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that Arifur Rahman, Special Metropolitan Magistrate of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, who was present at the center, detained Shuvo and conducted a search. During the search, two mobile phones were recovered from him.
Quoting preliminary interrogation, the DMP official said that Shuvo sent the question paper to a person named Shyamal via WhatsApp using a mobile phone. Later, Shyamal prepared the answers and relayed them to Shuvo through a special electronic device.
Police said that when entering the examination hall, Shuvo was using a tiny device placed inside his ear. The device was recovered during the search. Additionally, a special device resembling a bank card with a SIM card attached, which had been placed on his wrist, was also seized.
Later, in the presence of witnesses, Arifur Rahman, Special Metropolitan Magistrate of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, conducted a summary trial and sentenced Mamunur Rashid to one year of rigorous imprisonment and examinee Shuvo to 10 months of rigorous imprisonment.
The Gulshan Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police provided overall assistance throughout the process, including the seizure of evidence and the judicial proceedings, the DMP official added.
