In a move set to reshape the global streaming landscape, Paramount Global has announced a major transformation. The company revealed that Paramount+ and HBO Max will be combined into a new and more powerful streaming service. The decision will take effect following the completion of Paramount’s proposed merger with Warner Bros. Discovery.

Paramount Chief Executive Officer David Ellison disclosed the historic plan during a meeting with investors. He noted that the two platforms currently have a combined direct subscriber base of more than 20 million. According to Ellison, the fusion of premium content and advanced technology will position the new platform to compete strongly with market leaders such as Netflix and Disney+.

The unified platform will offer viewers a vast collection of globally popular films and series under one roof. From HBO, epic series such as Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, Succession, and the Harry Potter franchise will be available. From Paramount, blockbuster franchises including Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, Yellowstone, and Star Trek will be included. In addition, superhero films from the DC Universe and the popular children’s show SpongeBob SquarePants will also form part of the combined library.

Despite the scale of the merger, Ellison made it clear that there would be no compromise on HBO’s distinct identity. He emphasized that HBO will continue to operate as a premium brand, maintaining its unique prestige. Under the leadership of Casey Bloys, HBO’s current content division will retain its creative independence. In Ellison’s words, “HBO must remain HBO. We want them to move forward while preserving their standards of excellence.”

Paramount is also preparing for significant technological upgrades. By mid-year, the company plans to bring its various services under a unified technological framework, referred to as a Unified Tech Stack. This transition is expected to deliver a smoother user interface and an enhanced streaming experience for viewers. Live sports coverage, including the UEFA Champions League, along with live news channels such as CNN and CBS, are set to become major attractions of the new platform.

Market speculation regarding the merger has been circulating since early 2026. Initially, streaming giant Netflix had also expressed interest in acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery. However, the board of directors of Warner Bros. ultimately accepted Paramount’s proposal. According to market analysts, if successfully executed, this merger could usher in a new era in the global streaming business, offering subscribers access to an extensive content library through a single subscription.
