The Minister of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology, Fakir Mahbub Anam, visited the Telecommunications Staff College of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) and the satellite ground station of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited in Gazipur.

During the visit on Tuesday, 3 March, the minister exchanged views with the officials concerned. The Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, Abdun Naser Khan, was present at the time.

While addressing officials at the Telecommunications Staff College, the minister said that if the unused land of the training center is utilized in a planned manner, it could be transformed into a revenue-generating institution for the government. He instructed the authorities to swiftly prepare a realistic project proposal without disrupting ongoing training activities.

The minister cautioned that government assets must not remain unused and emphasized the need to proceed with prior planning. He also noted that necessary steps are being taken to address the shortage of engineers and urged those concerned to carry out their responsibilities with accountability.

Secretary Abdun Naser Khan stated that the training center would not be limited to government courses alone; rather, it would be opened to both public and private participants. He added that efforts would be made in collaboration with relevant institutions to introduce internationally certified courses.

The secretary further said that within the next 180 days, a clear action plan must be presented, including course launches, modernization initiatives, and necessary project proposals. The ultimate goal, he stated, is to develop the Telecommunications Staff College into a center of excellence.

At the meeting, officials briefed the minister on ongoing activities, future plans, and measures taken to improve service quality.

At the beginning of the session, the minister inaugurated the basic training course for newly recruited employees of the Posts and Telecommunications Division.

After visiting the Telecommunications Staff College, the minister proceeded to inspect the satellite ground station of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited in Gazipur. During the visit, he planted tree saplings at the site.
