Moderate Tremor Measured Across Bangladesh

A moderate earthquake was felt across the country at 1:50 pm on Friday, February 27. The tremor registered a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the epicenter of the earthquake was located 26 kilometers southwest of Khulna district in the southwestern region of Bangladesh. The depth of the quake was 35 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.

Farzana Sultana, Assistant Meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, stated that the epicenter was in Satkhira district and that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.4 on the Richter scale.

Earlier, on February 26, an earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale was felt in the capital and various parts of the country during the afternoon. Its epicenter was in Sikkim, India. In addition, on Wednesday night, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake was experienced in the capital and other parts of the country, with its epicenter in Myanmar.
