macOS Tahoe Tipped: Apple’s New OS Name Leaked Ahead of WWDC 2025

Just ahead of Apple’s much-anticipated Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, the possible name of the upcoming Mac operating system—macOS 26—has reportedly been leaked. According to Bloomberg’s tech journalist Mark Gurman, the next version of macOS is likely to be called macOS Tahoe. The report was first cited in his "Power On" newsletter and picked up by MacRumors.

The name “Tahoe” is inspired by the picturesque Lake Tahoe in California, aligning with Apple’s tradition since 2013 of naming macOS versions after iconic Californian landmarks—such as Mavericks, Yosemite, Monterey, Sonoma, and Sequoia.

Gurman stated that the aesthetic of macOS 26 will reflect “the elegance of Lake Tahoe’s mirrored waters,” with the operating system expected to introduce a more glass-like, translucent design. He noted that “windows, buttons, and icons will appear even more translucent,” emphasizing a refined, cleaner visual experience.

Apple is set to unveil macOS 26 during the keynote presentation at WWDC 2025, scheduled to begin on June 9 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. Alongside macOS, the company will also showcase iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 during the event.
