Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Unveils Language Day Commemorative Postage Stamp
On the occasion of Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day–2026, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman unveiled a special commemorative postage stamp. The stamp was released on Saturday morning, 21 February, through a formal ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office located in Tejgaon in the capital, Dhaka.
As the newly appointed Prime Minister, this marked his first official administrative signature and activity at the Tejgaon office. Present at the event were Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam, Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Abdun Naser, Director General of the Department of Posts Kazi Asadul Islam, among others.
Through this ceremony, after a long period, the administrative activities of the new government formally began in full swing at this office in the presence of the head of government.
Earlier, at 10:10 am, when Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived at the Tejgaon office, he was accorded a warm reception. Upon entering the office premises, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A B M Abdus Sattar and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon welcomed him. Before entering the main building, an unprecedented and emotional situation was created there.
The Prime Minister exchanged greetings with officials and employees of various levels working at the office.
Eyewitnesses stated that upon seeing many officials and employees who had served during the government of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, he spent considerable time with them and called many by name to inquire about their well-being. His cordial behavior generated noticeable enthusiasm and excitement among the attending officials and staff. Before beginning official work at the office, the Prime Minister planted a sapling of a Swarnachampa flower in the premises. After the tree planting, he offered gratitude to Almighty Allah and participated in a special prayer. In the prayer, supplications were made for the peace, prosperity, and welfare of people at all levels of the country.
At that time, the Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser, Brigadier General Dr. A K M Shamsul Islam (Retd.), along with senior military and civilian officials, were present. The Prime Minister reiterated his firm commitment to dedicating himself to the service of the people of the country at his new workplace.
