Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan receives floral greetings from two secretaries

The two secretaries of the Ministry presented newly appointed Minister of Post, Telecommunications & Information Technology and Science & Technology, Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan, with floral greetings.

On Tuesday, February 17th, the Secretary of Post and Telecommunications, Abdun Naser, and the Secretary of Information and Communication Technology, Shish Haider Chowdhury, visited the Minister's Baridhara residence in the evening and presented him with bouquets of flowers.

Sources say that Minister Fakir Mahbub will hold his first meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, February 18th, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman.

Previously, in the Thirteenth National Parliament election, Swapon Fakir, as a member of the central executive committee of the party, was elected from Tangail-1 (Madhupur-Dhanbari) constituency with the 'Sheaf of Rice' symbol, receiving 153,932 votes in the election held on February 12th. He was then sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the morning and as a Minister in the afternoon on Tuesday. This is his first time as a Member of Parliament and he has immediately been given a place in the BNP cabinet led by Tareq Rahman.

Notably, Fakir Mahbub Anam (Swapon) has lost elections before, sometimes due to his own party's 'rebel' candidate, sometimes due to adverse political environments. He has also been denied party nominations on occasion. But Fakir Mahbub Anam has never given up. This businessman politician has been involved in the development of Madhupur for 25 years. Finally, this time, Fakir Mahbub Anam, a native of Bhuapur Upazila in Tangail, brought victory to the party in the area after a drought of 45 years. His uncle, Afaz Uddin Fakir, is a former Member of Parliament for Tangail-2 (Gopalpur-Bhuapur) constituency. Another uncle is the famous lyricist Lokman Hossain Fakir.

According to the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission for the Thirteenth National Parliament Election, businessman Fakir Mahbub Anam's total assets amount to 39.265 million taka according to the income tax return for the financial year 2025-26. He has shown an annual income of 2.277 million taka. His wife, Reshma Anam, has assets worth 25.808 million taka. Her annual income is 1.31125 million taka. The two children have assets worth 7.981 million and 6.828 million taka respectively.
