Bangladesh Exports ‘Beko’ Washing Machines to Europe for the First Time
A new milestone in the history of Bangladesh's economic zones was achieved as Singer Bangladesh Limited commenced its first-ever export of ‘harness’ products to Europe from the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ). The achievement is being hailed as a significant step forward in the country's home appliance manufacturing sector.
To mark the occasion, a formal ceremony was held on Thursday, July 31, at the BSEZ located in Araihazar, Narayanganj. The BSEZ is a joint venture between the governments of Bangladesh and Japan, established under a G2G partnership. Present at the ceremony were Saleh Ahmed, Additional Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh and Executive Member (Investment Promotion) of BEZA, Mustafizur Rahman, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, and MHM Fairoz, Managing Director and CEO of Singer Bangladesh Limited.
The inaugural shipment consists of wire harnesses destined for the Beko washing machine factory in Ulmi, Romania. With this export, Singer Bangladesh officially enters the global supply chain, paving the way for diversified export opportunities.
“Our goal is to establish Bangladesh as a reliable manufacturing hub on the global map,” said MHM Fairoz, adding, “We are committed to sustainable development, technology transfer, export diversification, and industrial excellence.”
Saleh Ahmed of BEZA remarked, “Bangladesh is still lagging in exporting non-traditional products. This export has opened a new direction. It’s a historic day for BEZA that will enhance investor confidence—both domestic and international.”
Hakan Altinisik, Factory Director at Singer Bangladesh, emphasized, “This is a major achievement for the country in terms of producing and exporting precise and sophisticated products. We are now supplying diversified components not just to the local market, but also to Europe and beyond.”
The home appliance manufacturing facility, built in just 18 months and operational within eight months of its groundbreaking, has been constructed in accordance with LEED Gold international environmental standards, making it an eco-friendly factory. A total investment of USD 78 million has been made so far.
In addition to wire harnesses, the factory currently manufactures refrigerators, televisions, air conditioners, and washing machines. According to company sources, plans are underway to regularly export products to Romania, Turkey, Slovakia, Poland, and Italy, primarily for supply to 14 global Beko-brand factories.
The company aims to create nearly 1,000 jobs at the facility by 2026.
