Muhit Moves to Ministries: BNP Lawmaker Takes Oath as ICT State Minister

Following the 13th National Parliament election, newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) MA Muhit from Sirajganj-6 constituency, representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has taken oath as a State Minister.

After being sworn in, he has been assigned responsibilities as State Minister for Health, Posts and Telecommunications, and Science and Technology in the new government. In addition, he will also serve with additional charge as State Minister for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The oath-taking ceremony was held on Tuesday afternoon, February 17, at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where President Mohammad Shahabuddin administered the oath. Among others present at the ceremony were newly appointed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Minister for ICT, Telecommunications, and Science & Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan.

Earlier in the day, MA Muhit expressed his firm commitment to working for the improvement of the country’s public health sector and the welfare of persons with disabilities. “I have been entrusted with the responsibility of State Minister for Health and Posts-Telecommunications. Please keep me in your prayers,” he said.

Party leaders stated that the new cabinet has been formed considering experience and political balance.

In the Sirajganj-6 constituency, Dr. MA Muhit was elected as an MP with 171,508 votes, contesting under the party symbol “Sheaf of Paddy” as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He is the son of eye specialist MA Matin, who served as Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister during the government of Hussain Muhammad Ershad. He is also the nephew of Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, who was elected from Sirajganj-2 and appointed as Minister for Power and Energy in the new parliament.
