Swapan’s Surge: From Tangail Triumph to Telecom and Tech Ministry
After 45 years, the Tangail-1 (Madhupur-Dhanbari) constituency has witnessed a competitive electoral victory for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). In the 13th National Parliament election held on February 12, BNP reclaimed the long-lost seat with the election of Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan, a member of the party’s central executive committee.
Following the party’s return to the constituency, Swapan took oath as a Member of Parliament on Tuesday, February 17, at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. Later in the afternoon, he was sworn in as a minister. According to sources, Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan has since been appointed as the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and ICT. In addition, he has also been entrusted with the responsibility of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The newly appointed minister comes from a political family. His father is Makbul Hossain Fakir and his mother is Mariam Banu. According to his affidavit, he identifies himself as a politician.
The oath of ministers and state ministers was administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, in the presence of newly appointed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other dignitaries.
It is noteworthy that in the 13th National Parliament election and referendum, Swapan Fakir secured 153,932 votes under the party symbol “Sheaf of Paddy,” marking his first election as a Member of Parliament. Alongside his political career, he is also engaged in business.
