In response to complaints regarding harassment and delays in freelancer ID processing, a digital platform for freelancer registration and ID cards was inaugurated by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, 13 January at the ICT Tower conference room in Agargaon, was attended by ICT Secretary Sheesh Haider Chowdhury, Director General of the Department of ICT Mohammad Abu Saeed, and representatives from Bangladesh Bank, NBR, and payment gateway companies.

Participants including Tanvir Ibrahim (BACCO President), Adnan Ahmed (Head of Technologies & Governance, Nagad Technologies Ltd), Tanvir Mahmud (bKash), Mojahedul Islam (Upwork), and Kamal Ahmed (Freelancer.com) shared their expectations and challenges during the discussion.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital services, noting improvements in mobile data pricing, 5G deployment, and public-private broadband access. He emphasized that while PayPal operations in Bangladesh faced hurdles, negotiations with the company have progressed to enable cross-border transactions.

To simplify freelancer registration and verification, the newly launched platform allows NID-based validation with a minimum charge of $50, aiming to address long-standing verification issues for freelancers in Bangladesh.
