BTCL Offers Up to 36% Discount on .bd Domain Services
To encourage the use of local internet addresses (country domains), Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) has announced discounts of up to 36 percent on .bd domain services. The discounts apply to two of the most popular categories of .bd domain services, according to BTCL’s Public Relations Department.
The information was shared in a press release sent to the media on Sunday (January 11). BTCL stated that the discount campaign is expected to increase the use of .bd domains among individuals and institutions, thereby strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure. Compared to .com domains, .bd domains are seen as offering a more professional local identity and better positioning in country-specific search results. Due to domestic registration policies, the service is also considered relatively more secure.
According to the press release, the new registration fee for third-level .bd domains has been reduced from Tk 1,100 to Tk 700, while the renewal fee has been cut from Tk 1,600 to Tk 1,020. Similarly, the new registration fee for second-level .bd domains has been reduced from Tk 2,000 to Tk 1,280, and the renewal fee from Tk 2,500 to Tk 1,600.
BTCL noted that value-added tax (VAT) will be applicable at the prescribed rate and that all registrations must comply with the guidelines set by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). The tariff decisions taken by BTCL authorities will remain effective, and the discounted rates will be available for a limited period only.
