Fake NEIR Website Flags Cyber Risk in Bangladesh
Banglvision has detected a phishing website impersonating the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR). The fraudulent site mimics the official NEIR portal but is hosted on a .com domain with the URL neribtrc.com.
As of 4 January, visitors to the phishing site could see options labeled “Register,” “Login,” and “Check Status Now.” While the “Check Status Now” feature redirects users to BTRC’s official page after entering a random 15-digit number, clicking on “Register” or “Login” redirects users to various online gambling sites.
Major General (Retd.) Emdad Ul Bari, Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), has emphasized the need to shut down such phishing sites immediately.
Cybersecurity experts have also warned that interacting with hidden malicious links on these websites can compromise personal data and put systems at risk of attack.
