Drone operations have been banned in and around all airports across Bangladesh, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, citing serious risks to national security and safe aviation operations.

In a letter issued on Tuesday, December 23, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) requested all concerned parties to comply with the directive and ensure strict adherence to the ban.

According to the CAAB letter, the Drone Registration and Operation Policy 2020 already prohibits unauthorised drone flights in airport areas and their adjacent zones. Despite this, on December 19, during the reception of the body of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi at the airport—attended by three advisers and other dignitaries—some electronic media outlets operated drones without prior approval to capture images.

CAAB noted that such unauthorised drone flights pose a severe threat to aircraft operations and aviation safety. Considering the gravity of the risk, the authority urged representatives of electronic media and the general public to refrain from flying drones in and around airport premises.
