Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University observed World Environment Day under the theme, "Climate Change: Today's Action, Tomorrow's Security." The university organized a rally, tree plantation programme, environmental seminar, discussion session, and several student competitions to mark the occasion.
On Monday, July the programme, organized by the Department of Environmental Science and Resource Management, was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam.
Following the inauguration, a colourful rally was held across the campus, followed by a tree plantation campaign and an environmental seminar at the department's seminar hall.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam said climate change is no longer a future concern but one of the world's most pressing realities. He stressed that environmental protection requires the combined efforts of the government, teachers, students, researchers, and the wider community.
He said planting trees, reducing plastic use, managing natural resources responsibly, and adopting environmentally friendly lifestyles can help build a safer planet for future generations. He also urged everyone to contribute to developing the university into a sustainable and environmentally friendly campus.
The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. A. S. M. Saifullah, Chairman of the Department of Environmental Science and Resource Management. Special guests included Professor Dr. Md. Abu Zubair, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Abu Naser Mohsin Hossain of the Tangail Forest Division, and Md. Bellal Hossain, Deputy General Manager and Regional Head of Pubali Bank.
The welcome address was delivered by Professor Dr. Mahmuda Binte Latif, Convener of the World Environment Day Celebration Committee.
Speakers discussed environmental conservation, the impacts of climate change, biodiversity protection, and sustainable development. They also emphasized raising public awareness and implementing practical initiatives to protect the environment.
The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes among the winners of various competitions.
