Bangladesh Launches E-Passport Services in Yangon on Victory Day

Marking the Great Victory Day, the Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar officially launched e-passport services in Yangon. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Dr Md Monwar Hossain, as the chief guest.

Special guests at the event included Lieutenant Colonel Md Shams Akhtar, Deputy Project Director of the e-Passport and Automated Border Control Management Project, and Israat Jahan, Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Embassy officials and staff, along with a significant number of Bangladeshi expatriates living in Myanmar, were also present.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, December 16, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that Ambassador Dr Monwar Hossain, in his address, paid deep tribute to the valiant freedom fighters of the মহান Liberation War. He also expressed profound respect for the martyrs of the July–August 2024 mass uprising led by students and the public.

The ambassador thanked the Department of Immigration and Passports for swiftly extending e-passport services to expatriate Bangladeshis in line with the guidance of the Chief Adviser. He noted that the introduction of e-passports has opened a new chapter in delivering modern, secure, and efficient services to Bangladeshi expatriates.

“With the launch of e-passports, immigration and passport-related processes for expatriate Bangladeshis will become more streamlined, secure, and convenient,” the ambassador said, expressing gratitude to all relevant ministries and departments for their sincere cooperation in implementing the initiative.

Earlier, Lieutenant Colonel Md Shams Akhtar delivered a brief presentation highlighting the technology behind the e-passport project, its proper usage, and its overall significance.

At the concluding session, the chief and special guests formally declared the inauguration of the e-passport services and distributed e-passport delivery slips among expatriate Bangladeshis present at the ceremony. They later visited and inspected the newly installed e-passport system at the embassy.
