Google to Shut Down Dark Web Report Feature from February 16, 2026
Google has announced that it will discontinue its ‘Dark Web Report’ feature starting February 16, 2026. Launched around a year and a half ago, the feature helped users monitor whether their personal information had been leaked on the dark web. The development was reported by TechCrunch.
According to Google’s support page, the decision was taken because the feature was unable to provide users with clear and effective guidance on what steps to take after potential security risks were detected. Many users had complained that beyond suggesting password changes, the tool failed to offer any concrete or actionable solutions.
As an alternative, Google is now placing greater emphasis on tools such as Security Checkup, Password Manager, and Password Checkup to enhance user protection. The company said that from January 16, no new data will be scanned on the dark web, and once the service is fully shut down, all related user data will be permanently deleted from Google’s servers.
