Talent Through Table Tennis: JUST Hosts Inter-Department Tournament 2025
With the theme “Let Youth Flourish Through Sports,” the Inter-Department Table Tennis Tournament 2025 began at Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) amid much enthusiasm and festivity. The two-day competition, held on October 21 and 22, features players from 20 departments of the university.
The event was inaugurated on Tuesday morning, October 21, at the Bir Sreshtho Hamidur Rahman Gymnasium by the chief guest, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, Vice-Chancellor of JUST.
In his inaugural address, Professor Dr. Majid said, “Sports bring joy, entertainment, and friendship. Through sports, we enhance our communication and build friendly relationships — and that is what we aspire to achieve. Every student should participate in sports and other co-curricular activities alongside academic studies. These activities help shape your identity and distinguish you from others.”
He further stated, “Just as we have advanced in research and global rankings, we aim to excel in sports as well. We will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen our achievements. I hope you will all play a vital role in building a prosperous nation.”
The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Md. Shahedur Rahman, Director of the Department of Physical Education. Special guest Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, Treasurer of JUST, also addressed the gathering.
Among others present were Dr. Md. Amjad Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Professor Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, Proctor; Dr. Md. Abdur Rauf Sarkar, Provost of Munshi Meherullah Hall; Dr. Md. Abdul Halim, Provost of Kabi Golam Mostafa Hall; Dr. Md. Rafiul Hasan, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office; Professor Dr. Md. Minhaj Uddin Monir, Director of the Research Cell; and Professor Dr. Md. Nasim Reza, Convener of the Tournament Organizing Committee 2025.
Physical instructors Ujjal Chandra Sutradhar, Md. Shahinur Rahman, Md. Jahangir Alam, and Md. Raihan Rakib also participated, along with teachers, officials, and students from various departments.
Former national table tennis player of Bangladesh, Ratna Rahman, served as the officiating referee for the tournament. The entire event was conducted by Md. Abdul Wahed, Assistant Director of the Department of Physical Education.
