Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur is rapidly establishing the foundation for a “Made in Bangladesh” ecosystem, accelerating the transformation of the country’s ICT industry toward a production-oriented economy. As the first and one of the largest technology entrepreneurship zones under the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA), the park has already attracted significant investments from domestic and international tech companies. Its modern infrastructure, plug-and-play facilities, advanced connectivity, and manufacturing-friendly environment have positioned it as a strategic investment hub for software development, electronics manufacturing, IoT processing, automation, and other Fourth Industrial Revolution–ready industries.

In continuation of this progress, renowned conglomerate Hossain Group’s subsidiary Bangla Cars is set to begin the commercial production of locally branded electric vehicles. On Tuesday, 2 November, the company will establish an EV and SUV manufacturing plant inside the Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park. This will be Bangla Cars’ second factory, to be set up at Plot 345 in Block 4 of the park.

The plant will be inaugurated by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and ICT. Hossain Group Managing Director Mohammad Zakir Hossain and Bangla Cars CEO Dr. Abdus Sattar are also expected to be present at the event.

Bangla Cars’ Sales and Marketing representative Monir Hossain Rudra said the company plans to invest around Tk 150 crore over the next two years, creating 500 new jobs at the facility. Industry insiders note that this large-scale manufacturing initiative—unprecedented in Bangladesh's automobile sector—will not only enhance the availability of affordable vehicles in the domestic market but also open long-term export opportunities.

Earlier, Bangla Cars began assembling electric vehicles at a 15-bigha facility in Panchabati, Narayanganj, under a joint venture with overseas firm Dayun Automobile Mitsubishi. That plant produced two models of EV trucks under the Made in Bangladesh label. At the time, Hossain Group Managing Director Zakir Hossain stated that EV trucks offer negligible fuel costs, no noise pollution, low maintenance requirements, and strong resale value. Building on that experience, the company is now shifting its focus toward manufacturing its own locally developed vehicle models.
