Indian High Commission Celebrates ITEC Day with Bangladeshi Alumni
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has celebrated ITEC Day with former participants of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme. The event, held on Monday, 1 December, was organized in collaboration with the ITEC Alumni Association of Bangladesh (IAAB) and brought together more than 150 alumni, according to a press release issued by the High Commission.
Speaking at the reception and alumni gathering, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma highlighted that ITEC represents India’s commitment to South–South cooperation, offering capacity-building and human resource development initiatives tailored to the needs and priorities of partner countries.
The High Commissioner noted that more than 5,000 Bangladeshi professionals have participated in various ITEC programmes over the years. He thanked the Bangladeshi alumni for serving as bridges of friendship, cooperation, and knowledge exchange between the two neighbouring countries.
He also acknowledged the contribution of the ITEC Alumni Association of Bangladesh in bringing former participants under one platform.
Representatives from several partner institutions—including the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO), and Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA)—were present at the event.
Bangladeshi artists performed musical pieces highlighting the deep cultural ties between the two nations.
According to the press release, launched in 1964 as part of India’s development assistance efforts, ITEC remains one of India’s flagship initiatives, sharing the country’s development experience and technological advancements with more than 160 nations.
Each year, ITEC offers over 12,000 training slots across more than 300 courses, spanning sectors such as agriculture, accounting, audit, management, good governance practices, SMEs, rural development, public health, parliamentary affairs, judiciary, election management, IT, data analytics, remote sensing, renewable energy, and advanced computing.
