Medical technologists and pharmacists across Bangladesh began a coordinated work stoppage on Sunday morning, 30 November, after the four-day ultimatum given to the government to implement the 10th-grade pay scale expired. The strike is being observed in all public, private, and specialized hospitals, diagnostic centers, and healthcare facilities nationwide.

Technologists and pharmacists at the National Institute of Laboratory Medicine & Referral Center, Dhaka Neuroscience Hospital, National Gastro Liver Institute & Hospital, Mitford Hospital, National Medical College & Hospital, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University were seen participating in the work stoppage in the morning.

Md. Ripon Shikder, coordinator of the Medical Technologist and Pharmacist 10th Grade Implementation Council, stated that the strike began at 9:00 am and would continue until 11:00 am. On 3 December, a half-day strike (8:00 am to 12:00 pm) is scheduled, and on 4 December, a full shutdown will be enforced.

Earlier, on 25 November, the Implementation Council announced a week-long roadmap of programs at a press conference at the National Press Club.

Md. Biplobuzzaman Biplob, coordinator of the council and general secretary of the Medical Technologist Association Bangladesh (M-TAB), said in a written statement that if the government fails to implement the rightful demand for the 10th-grade pay scale even after these programs, they will initiate an indefinite complete shutdown.

Following the council’s call, technologists and pharmacists in districts including Kushtia and Faridpur also staged demonstrations and human chains outside the capital on Sunday.
