Apple Set to Overtake Samsung in Global Smartphone Shipments in 2025

Apple may surpass Samsung in global smartphone shipments this year, according to a forecast by Counterpoint Research. The firm estimates that Apple will ship nearly 243 million iPhones in 2025, while Samsung is expected to ship around 235 million devices. This would give Apple a 19.4% global market share, slightly ahead of Samsung, reports The Verge.

The report notes that sales of the newly launched iPhone 17 series were 12% higher in the first four weeks compared to the iPhone 16 lineup. Lower-than-expected tariff risks also helped boost sales momentum.

If this projection holds true, it would mark the first time in nearly 14 years that Apple overtakes Samsung in annual smartphone shipments. Although various research firms have provided differing estimates in recent years, Counterpoint’s assessment indicates a major milestone for Apple. Neither the lukewarm response to the iPhone Air nor questions surrounding Apple’s AI advancements have hindered the strong performance of the iPhone 17 series.

Apple is also planning to launch the budget-friendly “17e” model next year, followed by the company’s first foldable iPhone, both of which could further strengthen Apple’s competitive edge.
