BdNOG Boosts Broadband Brilliance in Sylhet

A four-day “BdNOG-20 Conference and Workshop,” organized by the Bangladesh Network Operators Group (BdNOG), is underway at the Grand Sylhet Hotel and Resort. Ninety participants, divided into three classes of 30 each, are taking part in this hands-on technical workshop.

The trainees are learning practical skills on “Network and DNS Security,” “Virtualization with Proxmox,” and “Advanced Routing with Mikrotik.” The main conference is scheduled for November 14, following the workshops.

The concluding day’s sessions will be chaired by BdNOG President Rashed Amin Bidyut, where research fellows will present their papers. The fellows include Mithi Akter of BTCL, Tasnufa Zerin Mou of Fiber@Home, Mahadi Hasan Tutul of Sylhet Agricultural University, Syed Abdur Rahim of Bangla Trac Communication, Nur E Alam Shehab of Amber IT, Mehedi Al Amin of IFIC Bank, Saiful Hasan Shanto of BRAC Bank, and Saad Ahnaf of Sol-BD.

Speakers at the event will include ISPAB President Aminul Hakim, Secretary General Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan, and other leading figures in the ICT and telecom sectors.

According to organizers, the workshop began on November 11, with ADN Telecom’s Abu Sufian delivering insights on automating ISP networks using Ansible and PHPIPAM. APNIC trainer Md Abdul Awal explained strategies for establishing DNSSEC on dotBD SLD, while Dr Yoshinobu Matsuzaki of IIJ conducted a technical session on IPv6 scanning.

BTCL’s Jayita Sen Rimpi discussed technical challenges of Universal Acceptance, while BdREN trainer Jamilur Rahman trained participants on affordable and balanced load management.

The workshop also featured comprehensive sessions on firewall, DNS, and network security led by Beatles Cyber Security’s Shahi Mirza. Md Arif Hossain of Meta Head Limited conducted a session on optimizing DNS performance in Kubernetes, while Faridul Alam of Check Point Software Technologies trained participants on hybrid mesh firewalls.

Amber IT’s lead trainer Md Mahbub Hasan Pavel, Dhaka University faculty member Imam Hasan Reza, and One Sky Communications’ AKM Jahangir provided hands-on training on Mikrotik routing and configuration.

The event’s co-organizer is the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), with APNIC and Team Simru as patrons. Fellowship sponsorship has been provided by Flexoptix, while BDIX, Bahon, and BdREN are gold sponsors. ICANN and STT have extended support as silver sponsors.
