International Accounting Day Observed at JUST by AIS: Freshers Welcomed, Graduates Honored

The Department of Accounting and Information Systems (AIS) at Jashore University of Science and Technology (Jashore University of Science & Technology) observed International Accounting Day 2025 along with its Freshers’ Reception and Farewell Ceremony through a series of vibrant activities, including a joyous rally, cake cutting, discussion sessions, floral greetings for new students, farewell honors for outgoing students, inter-departmental sports award distribution, and a cultural program.

The day’s events commenced on Monday, November 10, with a colorful procession involving all AIS members. The rally was inaugurated by Dr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain, ACCA, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and Chairman of the AIS Department. The procession began in front of the Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Academic Building and moved through different parts of the campus before concluding near the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Academic Building.

A discussion session was then held at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery of the same building. Following the discussion, members of the AIS family cut a cake to mark International Accounting Day. Later, at 3:00 PM, the department organized its official Freshers’ Reception and Farewell Ceremony.

The keynote speaker at the event was Md. Ali Akter Rizvi, FCA, Director of Hawlader Yunus & Co., Chartered Accountants, and Independent Director of Meghna Bank PLC. Addressing the newly enrolled students, he highlighted the significance of the day and underscored the vital contribution of accountants, auditors, and financial professionals to the global economy and society. He emphasized the importance of accounting at all levels, promoting financial transparency, accountability, and ethical financial practices. He encouraged young students to consider accounting as a valuable and stable career pathway.

The program was presided over by Dr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain, ACCA, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and Chairman of the AIS Department. Other speakers included Debashish Pal, Manager of Meghna Bank PLC, Jashore Branch; Dr. Md. Rafiul Hasan, Director of the Office of Student Counseling and Guidance; Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Associate Professor of AIS; and Lecturer Tarun Sen. Faculty members and students from different academic years attended the ceremony.

In the evening, a cultural program featuring performances by AIS students brought the day’s celebration to a spirited conclusion. Students Towfiq Iqbal and Faisal Iqbal conducted the overall event proceedings.
