Apple is set to use Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) model to modernize its voice assistant Siri. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple will pay Google nearly 1 billion dollars annually under this agreement, as reported by TechCrunch.

Initially, Apple will implement a customized version of Gemini to power the upgraded Siri. Although Apple continues to rely primarily on its own technologies, the company plans to use Google’s model as an interim solution until its own advanced AI system is ready.

Google’s Gemini model contains 1.2 trillion parameters—making it significantly more complex and powerful than Apple’s current cloud-based model, which has around 150 billion parameters.

Before finalizing this collaboration, Apple had tested AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic. However, due to comparatively better performance, the company ultimately chose Google’s solution.

According to Bloomberg, the new version of Siri could be released next spring, although the timeline remains subject to change.
