Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-14) have arrested a man from Tangail on charges of extorting money from a married woman in Faridpur by threatening to release an indecent video on social media.

The detainee, identified as Mehedi Hasan Milon (30) of Tangail district, was apprehended on Friday afternoon from in front of Tezpur Government Primary School in Kalihati upazila. The arrest was confirmed in a press release issued by RAB-14, Tangail Camp (CPC-3).

According to the RAB statement, Milon developed an online romantic relationship about a year ago with a married woman from Faridpur through social media. During a series of video calls on IMO and WhatsApp, the accused allegedly recorded a 22-second indecent video of the victim without her consent and later sent it to her IMO number.

RAB reported that Milon threatened to circulate the video on social media and share it with the victim’s family members unless she paid him money. Fearing humiliation, the woman eventually transferred a total of Tk 90,000 to the accused through bKash and Nagad in multiple transactions.

Most recently, on October 4, Milon demanded an additional Tk 50,000, claiming he would delete the video. When the victim refused, the accused allegedly threatened to publicly release the video, force her husband to divorce her, destroy her marriage, and even abduct her.

Following the threats, the victim’s husband filed a case under the Pornography Control Act 2012 (Sections 8(1)/8(2)/8(3)/8(4)) with Faridpur Kotwali Police Station on October 7, 2025 (Case No. 13).

In a joint operation, RAB-14 (Tangail CPC-3) and RAB-10 (Faridpur CPC-3) teams located and arrested Milon based on intelligence leads. RAB confirmed that the accused was the prime suspect named in the case and would be handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
