The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has imposed a ban on drone flights in and around Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport until February 15, citing aviation safety concerns.

The restriction was announced through an official notice issued on Thursday, and the ban took effect the same day.

According to the notice, all types of drone operations are prohibited within the airport’s surrounding areas, including flight paths, training zones, and aircraft take-off and landing areas, until February 15.

The information was confirmed on Friday by Kawsar Mahmud, Assistant Director (Public Relations) of CAAB.

In a statement signed by him, CAAB said that unauthorised drone operations pose a serious threat to aviation safety and security and violate the Drone Registration and Operation Policy, 2020.

The authority noted that drone flights may be permitted only under special circumstances, provided that prior clearance is obtained from the respective district administration and a formal application is submitted to CAAB. The aviation regulator will make the final decision after reviewing such applications.

CAAB has strongly urged the public to refrain from flying drones without prior approval, warning that legal action will be taken against violators.
