Harun-Shakil Sweep Secures DAB Council

The Harun-Shakil full panel has achieved an overwhelming victory in the council election of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB), the physicians’ wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Out of a total of 3,117 registered voters, 2,600 ballots were cast in this year’s election.

In the results, Professor Dr. Harun Al Rashid of the Harun-Shakil panel won the post of President with 1,369 votes, while Dr. Zahirul Islam Shakil secured the position of Secretary General with 1,458 votes. Dr. Abul Kenan won the Senior Vice President post with 1,330 votes, Dr. Md. Mehedi Hasan claimed the Treasurer position with 1,312 votes, and Dr. A.K.M. Khalekuzzaman Dipu took the Senior Joint Secretary General position with 1,316 votes. The panel clinched victory in all contested positions.

Conversely, the Aziz-Shakur panel failed to secure any wins. Professor Dr. A.K.M. Azizul Haque received 1,202 votes for President, Dr. Abdus Shakur Khan garnered 1,079 votes for Secretary General, Dr. Saif Uddin Nisar Ahmed Tushar received 1,233 votes for Senior Vice President, Dr. Touhid Ul Islam secured 1,259 votes for Treasurer, and Dr. Abu Md. Ahsan Firoz got 1,249 votes for Senior Joint Secretary General.

The voting took place on Saturday, August 9, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Willes Little Flower School and College in Kakrail, Dhaka. BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Bijon Kanti Sarkar served as the Chief Election Commissioner for the DAB polls. The official results were announced after 12:30 a.m., with other members of the election commission, rival candidates from both panels, and DAB’s physician leaders present.
