Dhaka University Debuts Dynamic Robotonics Fest
For the first time, Dhaka University has organized a two-day “Robotonics Fest” under its own initiative. Jointly hosted by the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering (RME) and the RME-DU Student Club, this inaugural celebration of robotics features five challenging and engaging segments—Soccer Robot, Line Follower Robot, Micromouse, and various Artificial Intelligence challenges—drawing participation from young innovators and researchers across the country.
Held at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, the festival has attracted around 900 students representing 200 teams from 50 schools, colleges, and universities nationwide. Each team is showcasing its own projects at the event. On the 9th floor of the Science Complex Building, students are applying artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to analyze data, create models, and make predictions aimed at solving real-world problems.
In the Senate Alumni Hall, competitors are operating remote-controlled robots, strategically attempting to score goals against opponents. The same venue is also hosting the “Project Showcase,” where students are presenting their innovative projects and research-based concepts.
Meanwhile, in the Senate Conference Room, participants in the “Line Follower Robot” and “Micromouse” events are being evaluated on their skills in software and hardware integration, sensor data analysis, and the implementation of pathfinding algorithms.
The festival was inaugurated on Saturday, August 9, in the Senate Conference Room by Dhaka University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed. The opening ceremony, chaired by Dr. Senjuti Rahman, Chairperson of the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, was attended by Professor Dr. Upama Kabir, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, as the special guest.
In his speech as chief guest, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed stated, “Technology is constantly transforming our daily lives. Among the technologies that will play a major role in accelerating this transformation in the future are robotics, mechatronics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Due to technological reliance, significant changes will also come to the job market in the future.”
Emphasizing the need to keep pace with the world by acquiring technological skills, he said, “We must focus on the correct application of technology in practical life. However, students should always value humanity, compassion, and sincerity.” He added that this fest would play an important role in enhancing students’ innovative abilities and technical skills in robotics and mechatronics.
