To enhance student and researcher access to agricultural knowledge in South Asia, a SAARC Agriculture Centre Book Corner has been inaugurated at the library of Gazipur Agricultural University (GAKRUB).

The official launch took place on Tuesday, July 22, with Vice Chancellor of Gazipur Agricultural University, Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman, and Director of the SAARC Agriculture Centre, Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid, jointly inaugurating the corner.

Special guests at the event included the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Moynul Haque and Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad. The event was chaired by the university's Chief Librarian Professor Dr. Md. Yunus Mia.

Senior Program Specialists from the SAARC Agriculture Centre—Dr. Md. Yunus Ali (Livestock), Dr. Sikander Khan Tanvir (Crops), and Dr. Raja Ullah Khan (Natural Resource Management)—were also present. Faculty members, university officials, students, and representatives from the SAARC Agriculture Centre attended the inauguration as well.

The book corner features a collection of approximately 200 research-oriented publications on topics such as agriculture, horticulture, livestock, poultry, fisheries, natural resource management, climate-smart agriculture, and adaptation strategies for drought- and salinity-prone areas, along with various policy-oriented subjects.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman said, “These books are rich in research and analysis and will serve as a valuable resource for our students, researchers, and faculty.”

Director of the SAARC Agriculture Centre, Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid, stated, “These publications reflect the spirit of regional cooperation among agricultural researchers and academics in South Asia. They are essential reference materials for postgraduate and PhD students and researchers.”

He added that the SAARC Agriculture Centre is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural development in the region through research, policy dialogues, and capacity-building initiatives. The centre regularly disseminates knowledge through research publications, workshops, and technology exchanges among member countries.

To date, the SAARC Agriculture Centre has published over 250 agriculture-related research books, which are routinely distributed to agricultural universities and research institutes across South Asia.
