In a heartfelt video message released on Monday night, July 21, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus expressed his deep sorrow and shock over the tragic plane crash at the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara, which claimed numerous lives and left many others injured.

Dr. Yunus began his message by stating, “I have no words. I don’t even know how to begin. Like me, the entire nation is stunned. None of us imagined such a thing could happen. It was beyond anyone’s comprehension. Yet, we’ve suddenly had to accept this unbelievable challenge. A training aircraft crashed and fell upon young children at Milestone School and College. They burned to death in the fire. What answer can we give to their parents? What can we say to them? We cannot even answer ourselves.”

He continued, “Unknown faces of children are flashing before my eyes. The entire nation is speechless, overwhelmed with grief. To call it sorrow would be an understatement. The trauma of this accident still lingers — bodies are still arriving at the hospitals. More deaths are still being reported. Parents are still searching for their children. We don’t even know if they will ever be identified. Among the corpses we are seeing, who knows whether one is our child or not. There is no way to tell. These children belonged to all of us. Suddenly, they are gone forever. Yes, we will investigate, but investigations will not bring them back.”

Dr. Yunus further said, “We have arranged for medical care; everyone has rushed in to help. People are coming to the hospitals from all over. We are humbly requesting everyone — please do not crowd the hospitals. It is not good for the injured. Their bodies are too weak to fight infections. Who knows what germs may be transmitted from our presence? Please pray from afar. We express our deepest sympathy to all parents and families. All the children of Bangladesh are your children. Please try to console your hearts, as we are trying to console ours. We are with you — the entire nation is with you.”

Announcing a national day of mourning, he added, “We have declared tomorrow a day of mourning. On this day, we will all remember the victims, pray for peace for their souls, and seek Allah’s mercy for them. May Allah grant peace to you all, and to everyone devastated by this tragedy. We all pray that these children are granted paradise.”
