Burn Unit Hotline: 01949043697; All Burn Units to Be Linked with 999

Following the tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft at the Milestone School and College campus in Dhaka’s Uttara, an emergency hotline has been activated at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery to coordinate critical assistance. The hotline—01949043697—can be used to inquire about the 60 injured students currently receiving treatment and to arrange blood donations.

To minimize the risk of infection, Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, has urged the public not to crowd the hospital premises.

Additional emergency contact numbers have also been made public, including those for the Military Rescue Brigade (01769024202), CMH Burn Unit (01769016019), CMH Emergency (01769013311), Milestone School administrative officer (01814774132), and Vice Principal (01771111766). The national emergency number 999 can also be dialed to connect directly with police emergency services, which are facilitating coordination with burn units across the country.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, stated that efforts are underway to connect all burn units in the country through a unified short-code and via the 999 emergency call center. He noted that with support from mobile network operators, the burn unit emergency lines have been temporarily made toll-free.

In a condolence message, Taiyeb said, "This heartbreaking tragedy has deeply saddened and shocked us all. I pray for the souls of those who have passed away and extend my sincere sympathies to their families. We are also praying for the swift recovery of the injured."

According to Md. Shahjahan Shikder, Senior Staff Officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, 19 people were confirmed dead in the crash as of Monday evening.

Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Residential Surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, reported that 60 patients have so far been admitted, with most in critical condition.

To support the emergency response, a dedicated metro rail coach next to the women’s compartment has been reserved to transport the injured to hospitals under Dhaka South City Corporation. The Police Headquarters confirmed that this reserved coach is being used to ferry victims quickly and safely.

In national mourning, flags will fly at half-mast across all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, and educational establishments on Tuesday, both in Bangladesh and at its foreign missions. Special prayers for the victims will also be held at all religious institutions across the country.
