OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has announced the launch of a $50 million fund aimed at supporting nonprofit organizations and community initiatives. The announcement came on Friday, July 18, according to a report by Reuters.

The fund is part of OpenAI’s efforts to implement the first recommendation from its newly formed Nonprofit Commission, established in April to provide strategic guidance for the company’s public-interest activities.

OpenAI stated that the fund will be used to “expand the use of artificial intelligence in education, healthcare, economic opportunity, community organizations, and public-interest research.”

Currently, OpenAI's nonprofit parent organization oversees its for-profit arm. The company also revealed plans to eventually transform its for-profit entity into a "public benefit corporation," with the nonprofit remaining its primary stakeholder.
