The preliminary round of the 20th Astro Olympiad is set to commence on July 11 and will continue until July 21. Interested participants must register to join the competition, with a registration fee of BDT 100, payable via bKash to the number 01915-653607.

Details of the upcoming event were announced during a press conference held on Thursday, July 3, at East West University in Aftabnagar, Dhaka.

The press conference was attended by former Bangladesh Bank Governor and Chairman of East West University’s Board of Trustees, Mohammad Farashuddin, Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, and Apex Footwear’s Assistant General Manager (Marketing) Raihan Kabir. A written statement was presented by Chairman of the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, Moshiurul Amin.

Organized by the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, the preliminary round will take place in both divisional and district-level cities. From this stage, 300 students will be selected to compete in the second round at the national level. The third and final round will be a closed camp, culminating in a written examination, from which the top five participants will be chosen.

These selected finalists will represent Bangladesh at the Open World Astronomy Olympiad, to be held in Russia from September 20 to 27. They will also have the opportunity to participate in the 29th International Astronomy Olympiad and the Asian-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad.

During the event, organizers clarified the age-based grouping: students born in 2010–2011 will compete in the junior group (ages 14–15), while those born between 2007–2009 will form the senior group (ages 16–18).
