iPhone Exports from India Soar, Surpassing 97% to the US Amid Tariff Tensions

Between March and May 2025, approximately 97% of iPhones manufactured in India were exported to the United States—more than double the 2024 average of 50%, according to a Reuters report.

Foxconn, Apple’s primary manufacturing partner in India, exported a total of $3.2 billion worth of iPhones to the US during this three-month period, the report noted. In May alone, the US received nearly $1 billion in Indian-made iPhones, following a record $1.3 billion in March.

This strategic shift is widely seen as Apple’s attempt to avoid the hefty 55% tariff imposed by President Donald Trump on Chinese goods. Reuters stated that Apple is increasingly leveraging India as a major export hub to circumvent these tariffs.

Commenting critically on Apple’s manufacturing shift, President Trump said, “We don’t want you building factories in India. Build them here in the United States instead.”

Analysts predict that India will contribute 25% to 30% of global iPhone supply in 2025, a significant increase from 18% in 2024.
