Broadband Boost: Primary Schools to Get Nationwide High-Speed Internet

In a significant step towards digitizing primary education, high-speed broadband internet is being installed in 65,567 government primary schools across Bangladesh. So far, connectivity has already been established in nearly 18,000 schools, with efforts intensifying to complete the remaining installations swiftly.

This initiative is being implemented under the Establishing Digital Connectivity (EDC) project (1st revised), which falls under the Department of Information and Communication Technology, operating under the ICT Division.

According to sources, the project is scheduled for completion by June 2025. To ensure timely implementation, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been instructed to continue operations during Eid-ul-Azha and other official holidays. ISPs have also been directed to prepare upazila-wise work plans and notify the respective Upazila Education Officers and head teachers at least three days in advance.

A recent circular issued by the Directorate of Primary Education stated that the necessary network infrastructure for the remaining schools has already been completed. Installation of the broadband connections is currently underway with instructions to finish the process as quickly as possible. The directive also emphasized the importance of active cooperation from school authorities to facilitate the installation and coordination process.

Officials involved in the project believe that the initiative will mark a transformative phase for primary education in Bangladesh. With access to broadband internet, both teachers and students will be able to engage more effectively with online learning materials and technology-driven teaching methods.
