China Offers Cybercrime Support
- China has offered support to strengthen Bangladesh Police’s cybercrime-fighting capabilities.
- Training, technical assistance, logistics and information sharing received priority.
- Both sides discussed cooperation against telecom-based fraud and technology-driven crimes.
A Chinese delegation led by Dr Liu Yuin, Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, met Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir at Police Headquarters on Tuesday, 6 October.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh Police and relevant Chinese authorities, particularly in combating cybercrime, exchanging information and enhancing law-enforcement cooperation.
The Chinese delegation expressed interest in supporting Bangladesh Police in strengthening its capacity to tackle cybercrime.
The proposed areas of cooperation include specialised cybercrime training, technical assistance, necessary logistical support and experience-sharing between relevant agencies of the two countries.
The two sides also discussed information and experience sharing between Bangladesh and Chinese law-enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime, including telecom-based fraud. They exchanged views on the possibility of joint action where necessary.
Both sides expressed optimism about further strengthening cooperation in combating cybercrime and technology-driven offences. They also emphasised expanding long-term cooperation through enhanced training and technical capabilities.
Senior officials of Bangladesh Police were present at the meeting.
