e-CAB Election Rescheduled for July 26 After Brief Suspension
The Executive Committee election of the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB) for the 2025–27 term, which was postponed just four days after its announcement, has now been rescheduled. Originally slated for May 31, the election will now be held on July 26, overcoming earlier administrative hurdles.
According to the Election Commission, the election will proceed under the original schedule, with the addition of previously excluded eligible voters, as all documentation has now been verified.
This update was confirmed on Sunday (May 18) through a revised schedule signed by Election Board Chairman Torofdar Sohel Rahman. The E-CAB Secretariat also announced that names can be added to the voter list until 5 PM on May 26.
As per the amended notice based on the board’s earlier announcement from March 3, members listed under serial number 6 of the previous schedule do not need to reapply for inclusion on the voter list. Additionally, in accordance with section 11 of the schedule, candidates listed as valid on May 8 are not required to purchase or submit nomination papers again. The Election Commission will now proceed directly to the candidate withdrawal stage.
The initial election postponement came after 30 candidates filed objections with the Ministry of Commerce, citing the exclusion of their voting rights. However, these candidates later expressed support for resuming the election process. On May 15, Team United submitted a formal request to the Commerce Secretary for the suspension to be lifted.
