Claiming to have built a transparent and locally-invested interconnection infrastructure over the past fifteen years, the Association of ICX Operators of Bangladesh (AIOB) has voiced concerns over recent developments in the telecom sector. Speaking on behalf of the ICX operators, the association argued that illegal VoIP operations, rising call rates, and persistent call drop issues stem primarily from internal network structures and market control exerted by mobile operators.

These remarks were made during a press conference held on Wednesday, April 30, at the Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity, organized by the Association of ICX Operators of Bangladesh (AIOB).

The event was presided over by Brigadier General Mostafizur Rahman (Retd.), President of the Telecom Infrastructure Operators of Bangladesh (TIOB) and Director of AIOB. Also present were AIOB General Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Aminur Rahman (Retd.), AIOB Treasurer and Group CEO of Jibondhara Solution Ltd. Brigadier General Md. Khurshid Alam (Retd.), and technology expert Ahmed Ur Rahman (Romel), among others.

Addressing the proposed simplification of the voice layer in the new policy, the speakers expressed serious reservations. “The proposed simplification in the voice tier is unrealistic,” they said. “It will adversely affect three critical areas—national security, income tax revenue, and the future of domestic entrepreneurs—as well as the overall quality of call services for general consumers.”
