ChatGPT Search Sees Soaring Popularity in Europe

ChatGPT's web-based search feature, known as "ChatGPT Search," is rapidly gaining popularity across Europe, according to a recent report published by OpenAI. The findings were reported by TechCrunch.

A report from OpenAI Ireland Limited stated that from October 2024 to March 2025, the average number of monthly active users of ChatGPT Search reached approximately 41.3 million. This figure represents nearly a fourfold increase compared to the previous six-month period.

The data was released in compliance with the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA), under which platforms are required to report usage statistics regularly. Platforms with over 45 million average monthly users are classified as “very large,” a designation that subjects them to stricter regulatory oversight, including data-sharing and audit obligations.

Despite the rapid growth, ChatGPT Search still lags behind Google in terms of overall usage. A recent study indicated that while the tool is evolving, it still has limitations in accuracy—particularly in delivering news-related information.
